Unified Basketball develops Skills and Friendships in China
Tianyu is a Special Olympics Youth Leader from China who will lead a Youth Innovation Project aiming to build strong bonds between Youth with and without intellectual disabilities through the creation of a Unified Basketball program. Tianyu’s goal is to foster trust and genuine friendships between Special Olympics athletes and Unified Partners. Tianyu hopes that these friendships will boost the self-confidence of Youth participants and form friendships.
Over the course of twelve months, Tianyu will lead basketball clinics at Unified Schools. In doing so, Tianyu intends to increase Unified Sports opportunities for Youth in his community. Tianyu hopes that participants will leave the clinic feeling confident in their basketball and social skills. By emphasizing the importance of developing lasting friendships through these clinics, Tianyu is encouraging more than just the development of basketball skills - Tianyu is growing the Unified Generation.
